At sewage treatment plants and municipal stormwater or sewage pumping stations, rapid-closing gates are installed upstream of the intake pump house to prevent equipment damage and environmental pollution in the event of disasters. During power failures, excessive pH levels, critically high liquid levels, or other unforeseen circumstances requiring immediate closure, the electromagnetic clutch automatically disengages. The gate then relies on its own weight to achieve closure. Rapid-closing gates may also serve as emergency maintenance gates in water supply and drainage projects, sewage treatment facilities, and hydraulic engineering works.
